En los años 70 se dan los primeros pasos para la organización del Centro de Lenguas. Desde aquel tiempo, y en las diferentes administraciones de la Facultad, fueron varias las comisiones nombradas con ese fin, cada una de las cuales dio aportes de gran valor para que en 1995 llegara a feliz término la creación del Centro de Lenguas de la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad de Panamá (CELUP), dentro del cual se enseña Español como Lengua Extranjera.
En el año 2009 el CELUP obtuvo la acreditación del Instituto Cervantes, lo que significa que cumple con los requisitos establecidos por el Sistema de Acreditación de Centros del Instituto Cervantes, la única acreditación en el ámbito internacional centrada exclusivamente en la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera.Â
Sin embargo, la enseñanza de Español como Lengua Extranjera (ELE) —primeramente dentro del Departamento de Español y posteriormente en el CELUP— data del año 1991, siendo el primer centro de este tipo en el paÃs.
El centro acreditado colabora y participa en programas tanto académicos como culturales: el DÃa del Idioma Español, festivales de cine, jornadas académico-culturales con las distintas embajadas establecidas en Panamá, los festivales cervantinos, excursiones, actividades literarias, presentaciones teatrales y musicales.
In the 1970s, the first steps were taken to organize the Language Center. In 2009, the CELUP obtained the accreditation from the Cervantes Institute, which means that it meets the requirements established by the Cervantes Institute Center Accreditation System, the only international accreditation focused exclusively on the teaching of spanish as a foreign language.
However, the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (also known as ELE) —first within the Department of Spanish and later in the CELUP— dates back to 1991, being the first center of its kind in the country.
The accredited center collaborates and participates in both academic and cultural programs: the Spanish Language Day, film festivals, academic-cultural conferences with the different embassies established in Panama, Cervantine festivals, excursions, literary activities, theatrical and musical performances.
